This is a skill every parent should know. If this doesnt work, CPR is next. Good quality, effective CPR to manually pump the heart to keep bub’s major organs alive.

As a paramedic I would write ‘ineffective CPR in progress’ more times than I’d like, which is a big part of why this company was created. I want to ensure that if your little ones need you, you know exactly how to help them, what steps to take and how to perform life saving skills perfectly, to give them the best chance of survival.

Ask yourself; if your little one needed you, would it be second nature? Could you carry out CPR with the correct ratio, speed and depth to keep them alive until an ambulance arrives?

We can help build this instinct ❤️

Calm. Quick to act. Life saver. Words that describe this mama in what would have been an incredibly scary situation. This mama did a Tiny Hearts First Aid course and knew exactly what choking looked like and how to help her child. If you are a parent-to-be or have a little one about to start solids, knowing first aid for your child is the most important investment you're going to make #chokingfirstaid #chokingbaby #chokingonfood

If choking treatment fails we need to start CPR 💔 you have 4 minutes to clear their airway before this happens.

Don’t kiss babies 💔 Send a mesaage around before baby areives letting everyone know your newborn rules and then enforce them - wven if ita uncomfotable youd rather 1 uncomfortable comverstion than nights in hospital with yiur newborn. Advocate for them, you are their voice ❤️

BEFORE you reach for honey or jam 👇 🚑 Call 000 if child has any breathing difficulties ☎️ Call 13 11 26 if child is stable (poison information line) 🐝 > 1 year give 10ml of honey every 10 minutes on the way to hospital 🍓 6-12 months give 10ml of jam every 10 minutes on the way to hospital If you don't have honey or jam, don't delay - go straight to hospital. Your child being seen by a doctor is the priority Research shows honey can make a significant difference in reducing damage, buying time for surgery and minimising long-term harm. Children under 1 shouldn't have honey do to the rare risk of infant botulism; jam has been shown to be a good second option.

One minute she was playing and the next she had undone the gate and gone down all the stairs! (PS I had looked over and seen her safely at the bottom before recording this to show my husband)

Replying to @Sunnys When a childs airway is completely blocked you have a matter of minutes to unblock it before they will become unconscious.. without treatment the child will die. This is why we must give hard back blows remembering we are trying to dislodge something stuck right down in the airway. A bruise will heal, a child who is choking will not without proper treatment ❤️ great question xx
